Brother Chucker – IPA 6.7% - Magic Rock Brewing

Brother Chucker – IPA 6.7% - Magic Rock Brewing

A collaboration with our pals Basqueland Brewing Project from San Sebastián, Spain. Back in October we headed out to the Basque country for some mountain biking and beer based R&R. Expertly guided by the excellent BasqueMTB we had an amazing trip and fell in love with the region’s beautiful countryside, amazing coastline and food and drink.

Our friend Sam Needham accompanied us on the trip to photograph/document what we got up to, the images and story of which should make it into a blog post soon (In the meantime there’s a select choice of images in the gallery below)

Of course we visited a few breweries in the area while we were there to see what was happening and were stoked to have the opportunity to brew with the excellent Basqueland Brewing Project. A memorable brew day full of amazing local food, beer and darts resulted in the delicious session IPA ‘Chucker’, which you may have seen out and about in bottles.

Naturally we owed BBP a return brew and a chance to repay their hospitality, so owner Kevin and head brewer Ben swapped the sunshine of San Sebastián for the gloom of West Yorkshire at the beginning of the year. A fun brew day and beer sampling session culminated with the boys having their minds blown by local fish & chips, mushy peas and a battered sausage.

The beer we brewed together is an amped-up version of Chucker ; the beer’s ‘big brother’ if you like, a new school IPA featuring a smooth body, measured bitterness and oodles of piny Simcoe, limey Motueka and a little tropical/stone fruit HBC 438 hops.

Tasting notes and recipe info for the beer are below. ‘Brother Chucker’ will be released in keg and 500ml labelled cans Magic Rock Tap on Friday 3rd February at 1pm, and online on Wednesday 7th at 9am, we hope you enjoy it.

Brother Chucker: IPA 6.7%

A collaboration with our mates at Basqueland Brewing Project, brewed to remind us of a fun filled week of bikes, beer, baked cheesecake, big smiles and err…. darts in the Basque country. A smooth malt bill featuring Golden Promise, wheat and golden naked oats, alongside a defined bitterness to aid drinkability. We then used lots of lovely piney/citrus Simcoe and limey New Zealand Motueka hops as well as a dash of tropically crazy HBC 438. The beer was fermented with our house WLP001 yeast for minimal aroma/flavour interference and super easy drinking refreshment …. BULLSEYE.

Malts : Golden Promise, Wheat Malt, Golden Naked Oats™,
Hops : T90 Cascade, Motueka, HBC 438. Cryo Hops™ Simcoe
Yeast : WLP001 American Ale Yeast
